Abstract

António Cabral main action is at the social level. Professor, poet, writer, entertainer, his curriculum also includes a journalistic aspect. Researcher dedicated to the Douro cultural issues, he was expert of the Council of Europe in the II European Alternative Stage on Traditional Sports and Popular Games, being also responsible for the organization of the Popular Transmontano Games and Popular Galaico-Transmontano Games, themes that inspired him in the writing of hundreds of articles in regional and national newspapers. He founded the magazines Setentrião (1962) and Tellus of which he was the first director (1978), and the monthly Nordeste Cultural (1980). He promoted, through CCRVR, five meetings of writers and journalists from Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro: in Vila Real (1981), Chaves (1983), Bragança, Mirandela and Miranda do Douro (1984), Lamego, Régua and Alijó (1985) and Vila Real (1997). In the newspapers and magazines that he founded or in which he participated, the popular games and traditions always had a prominent place in their dissemination.
