This essay aims to discuss relations between the historical imagination (KRAMER, 1992; BANN, 1994; WHITE, 2001) and visual history (MENEZES, 2003), from the use of the image as an object for the study of history. The image on this work will be seen as visual text, taking into account the role of imagination in narrative construction and context of relationships established from, for and by the visual work. We examine some notions of visual culture (HALL 1996; HERNÁNDEZ, 2000 and MITCHELL, 2001) in relation to the story, looking for possible contributions to the field of visual arts.
