Abstract

The baile popular (at the beginning of the XXI century) is a formally organized event in which music and dance play a central role. It takes place throughout Portugal (Baixo Alentejo), having different configurations. In this article, I will approach the baile as a performance carried out and negotiated by musicians, promoters and participants.
