Abstract

Grounded theoretically on Raymond Murray Schafer's work, World Soundscape Project, in which he studied the production of natural, rural and urban, acoustic surroundings, this research aimed at examining the teaching practices carried out on Music Educational Courses. It also searched for a link between knowledge and practice through a participant research having the students and the teacher from the Music Education Course as subjects. The concepts of soundscape, music, environment, sound, noise, and noise pollution were investigated and built upon. Results showed that music can help on the development of an environmental consciousness and that music teachers have a responsibility in teaching the ability of listening to consciously.
