Abstract

It was investigated the existence of Brazilian song lyrics (any genre) used as strategies for teaching in 6 collections of textbooks of the discipline Sciences, used in Brazil for final grades of elementary school (sixth to ninth years), totaling 24 textbooks. Only 32 lyrics songs were found in more than 6200 pages that were studied. From the 24 books reviewed, 10 did not have any music used as a teaching strategy. 12 songs, among the 32 that were found, presented the lyrics in full. The lyrics were submitted to content analysis (Bardin, 2011), to identify analytical categories associated with the themes proposed for the science teaching in the country, and life and environment focused 21 of 32 songs. The knowledge and information disclosed in this article may facilitate the process of choosing textbooks for science teachers, encouraging a reflexive, critical and conscious choice.
