Abstract

The aim of this work is to revise in a preliminary and exploratory way a number of passages on contemporary art productions. In order to understand this, we have analysed aesthetic criteria that differentiate what is considered contemporary from the artistic production in its totality. Therefore, this composition focuses on those experiences that take works of art from public and private collections as muses, which by means of the appropriation practice offer new suggestions regarding the singularity of an artwork. For this reason, this work oblige us to concentrate, first, on some characteristics of contemporary production, and second, on aspects of the appropriation practice as a way to judge the originality of a piece of art. Last, we will provide examples on this type of experience, by taking as a point of departure the work Museum of Contemporary Art, Lima (LiMAC) by the artist Sandra Gamarra. This analysis will seek to provide new perspectives on questions which have been analysed throughout art history, but from the specific point of view of the contemporary way of being. This will lead us to a reinterpretation of the artistic relationships, discourses and institutions, in order to consider them from their own nature.
